January Fan of the Month Winners
Posted by Lourd Sultan on
2018 brings us new fans who love art and creativity as much as we do. These people not only share their talents; they also tell a story and give inspiration with each page that they color. We want to recognize that, so each month, we choose three winning submissions based on a set criteria. Aside from these winners, we also pick three random entries...because the more, the merrier, right?
Each winner gets a $25 ColorIt gift card and have the chance to double their prize by having their ColorIt Pencils, Markers or Gel Pens in their submission photo. Here are the winning submissions and exclusive interviews from some of our fans of the month this January:
When did you first pick up a coloring book?
I always loved coloring even as a child. Back then there was nothing better than a new coloring book and a box of crayons! I picked up adult coloring a few years ago as a way to relax and I have been hooked ever since!
Describe your perfect coloring atmosphere.
I love to color in the evening to help unwind before bed. Curled up the couch coloring, either listening to music or watching TV, with a cup of coffee or hot tea--that's the perfect way to end a day!
Tell us about your creative process when you get ready to color.
I try to get a picture in my mind of what I would like the final product to look like. Sometimes I will look at color palettes to get ideas, but mostly I just try to "free my creativity!"
How has coloring changed or added to your life?
It has definitely given me a way to deal with the stress of daily life. I love the creative process. I love how it takes my mind away from worries and gives me something positive to focus on.
What advice would you give someone who isn't confident about their coloring technique?
Don't overthink things! Experiment with different techniques and mediums. You definitely get better the more you practice. There are tons of tutorials out there as well to help with learning techniques.
What's your favorite ColorIt book? What title would you like to see in the future?
I love them all! My favorites would probably be A Colorful Christmas, Blissful Scenes, and Colors of the Decades. I would love to maybe see a coloring book with cats or wild animals in the style of the Dogs book. Or maybe another book of places like the Around the World book.
Tracey Branson colored this page from Around the World in 50 Pages coloring book.
Is there anything else you want to share about your love of coloring?
Colorit products are definitely my favorite. Everything I have purchased from them has been high quality. The coloring books are the best out there! I really enjoyed coloring this picture. It was definitely one of the most detailed pictures I have done so far, but the challenge made it fun.
When did you first pick up a coloring book?
I loved to color as a child, but the first time I picked up a coloring book as an adult was back in September, 2017. After visiting my mom and seeing her work in her Colorit books, I decided to order some for myself.
Describe your perfect coloring atmosphere.
It the midst of my chaotic kitchen. I spread my stuff all out on the kitchen table and go to work.
Tell us about your creative process when you get ready to color.
Typically I try to plan out the picture before I start. Mainly, what colors I'm going to use and where I'm going to start. Sometimes my work doesn't always follow that plan though and happens organically.
How has coloring changed or added to your life?
Coloring, for me, is very calming. It is a great stress reliever and just something that I really enjoy. My daughter, daughter-in-law and my granddaughter have all started to color some as well.
What advice would you give someone who isn't confident about their coloring technique?
I'm not confident in my coloring technique by any sense of the word. I practice techniques I see online and try to incorporate that into my work. It isn't always a positive experience, but then I go on to the next picture and try it again. In the end, the main thing is how you feel about your own picture. There is really no wrong way, there is only your way.
What's your favorite ColorIt book? What title would you like to see in the future?
If I had been asked this question back in September, I would have said Calming Doodles. Since then, and since the Christmas Downloads, I have fallen for scenes. I recently received the Blissful Scenes book which has become my new favorite. As for what title I would like to see in the future? That is hard to say. You've covered so many in the books you already offer. Lighthouses would be really great. Maybe even famous landmarks. Truthfully, the next title I would like to see in the future is the one you haven't announced yet. 😉

Is there anything else you want to share about your love of coloring?
If it weren't for my mom and how much she loves your products, I probably wouldn't be coloring today. When I saw her work and how the marker just popped off the page, I was blown away. I felt like I would really love coloring with the markers. She has every book you offer, so I was able to really look at them. Since I was just beginning, I thought the Calming Doodles book would be a great start. I fell instantly for it. I now have 5 of your books and probably every free download you offer. I'm hooked.
This page is one of our 12 Free Christmas Downloads. Amanda White did a great job with this one.
