SEPTEMBER 2020 FAN OF THE MONTH WINNERS

Posted by ColorIt Support on

"It looked like the world was covered in a cobbler crust of brown sugar and cinnamon."
Sarah Addison Allen 🍂

Fall feels good, doesn’t it? It’s cool like the first kiss of winter, as bright as the smile of summer, and as colorful as the dance of spring. For this year’s fall, we hope that you make new memories as golden and sweet as the season itself. 🍁

For our September Fan of the Month challenge, we asked our ColorIt family to channel their love of fall into coloring. They’re to color in any fall-themed page from any ColorIt book and upload it here.

At the end of the month, the ColorIt team will choose three (3) submissions based on the set criteria and three (3) more random picks to keep things fun.

The 6 talented winners will then receive a $25 gift card from ColorIt. You can even double your prize amount if you color the page using any of our coloring mediums and include them in the photo of the coloring page that you upload.

SEPTEMBER FAN OF THE MONTH WINNER: Debra Goykovich

When did you first pick up a coloring book?

Coloring was fun as a child so to be able to do it on an adult level for the last four years is a reminder of past interests elevated to a new level.

Describe your perfect coloring atmosphere.

Coloring with a scented candle, some music or an audible book in the background, and being surrounded by my four dogs is my ideal coloring atmosphere.

Tell us about your creative process when you get ready to color.

After selecting the picture, I utilize self made color charts to decide on a color palette. Sometimes I research online or in books for new color combinations. Color inspirations are all around us if you are aware.

How has coloring changed or added to your life?

Coloring can be chicken soup for the soul, brings peace of mind and is my go to activity to forget worries and reduce stress.

What advice would you give someone who isn’t confident about their coloring technique?

Advice to newcomers: try different mediums-pens, markers, pencils. At the beginning, select pictures that aren’t overly complicated. Create your own color charts when purchasing new mediums to become familiar with the colors.

What’s your favorite ColorIt book?

Blissful Scenes is my favorite but I am so excited to try the new ones that I ordered from being one of the September winners. Putting color onto the paper that COLORIT uses is such a treat and unlike any other coloring experience.

What title would you like to see in the future?

I would love to see COLORIT make a book inspired from songs that are well known to everyone (Ex: America the Beautiful, Take Me out to the Ballpark, Happy Birthday, Amazing Grace, etc), combining a few lyrics with pictures!!!! “TUNE INTO COLORING”

Is there anything else you want to share about your love of coloring?

Coloring gifts to friends who are hospitalized or who are going through difficult times is a way for me to share an activity that helps ease my mind in the hopes that it will help them too.

When did you first pick up a coloring book?

I loved coloring for as far back as I can remember; then when my grandchildren came along, I loved coloring with them. Last Christmas, my daughter gave me a mandala coloring book and markers (not nearly as nice as Color It) and laughingly told me it would be something for me to do "in my spare time." When COVID hit in March, I became addicted to coloring and have completed the book she gave me and the Color It Mandala 1 and 2, working on Mandala 3 and the Wonders of Nature. I actually bought Mandala 1 again so I could color them again and compare them to the first time I did them. It was amazing how different they were. The Nature book has been a struggle for me but I will keep working on it.

Describe your perfect coloring atmosphere.

I enjoy sitting at the kitchen table and coloring while I "watch" TV.

Tell us about your creative process when you get ready to color.

I study the picture for a few minutes and try to pick out the various patterns and decide what I want to emphasize and what colors would look best. Then I choose my markers and lay them out so I won't forget which ones I'm using. I generally only use 6-7 markers on any given page.

How has coloring changed or added to your life?

I have found it to be a great escape from all the chaos we are experiencing in our country; I love sending them to friends to get their reactions since we can't get together in person. They have become quite a conversation piece among my friends.

What advice would you give someone who isn't confident about their coloring technique?

I have told several of my friends to just give it a try and see how they like it. The first few attempts may not be what they are looking for but you can learn to make changes and get better each time.

What's your favorite ColorIt book?

Hands down - Mandala II

What title would you like to see in the future?

I am totally hooked on the mandalas and will probably use my gift card for the Mandala II book again - that one had so many beautiful mandalas! So for me - more mandalas!

Is there anything else you want to share about your love of coloring?

It just brings me lots of joy and a sense of accomplishment. Some days, it does interfere with my housework because I get started and just can't stop!
