Hang a sock for Santa!

Hanging up huge red socks the night before Christmas is a tradition we never skip. It’s become a symbol of generosity and, for kids, a sign of gifts to come. But, why do we hang socks on Christmas Eve?

Well… it all started with a sock. A wet sock, to be specific.

Some snow had gotten inside a man’s shoes and left his socks wet. As soon as he got home, he took them off and hung them by the fireplace; hoping they dry quickly enough so he could use them the next day.

But this was the night jolly old St. Nicholas was bringing gifts.

Santa dropped the man’s gift into the chimney, expecting it to roll out into the fireplace. Instead, the bag of gold he brought for the man landed perfectly into the stocking that was hung out to dry.

The man was shocked. It was a Christmas miracle! He told everyone what happened and, since then, people have been leaving their socks out by the fireplace.
